- Native and improved PDF support: This was an improvement first included in Kindle DX. It’s indeed very useful, particularly since many docs come now in this format. Along with PDF support being enhanced, other functionalities such as the ability to zoom in by using landscape mode remain the same.

-New web-kit based browser: Not the best browser in the world ,if you ask me (Amazon themselves claim it to be “experimental” at this point), but certainly a nice touch, particularly since the new Kindle 3 has now in-built Wi-Fi capabilities. Still easier to use than the Nook’s.

- Overall faster interactivity: Another key improvement. If you’re tired of waiting a couple of seconds every time you want to turn a page in your Nook, here’s the answer. The software just works great and makes navigation faster and smoother.

- Much longer battery life: About 1 whole month with Wi-Fi turned off, and about 10 days otherwise. If you’re careful, the 10 day period can even be an understatement. Also, this low energy consumption means the Kindle 3 reading device never gets hot, so you can hold it for as long as you want.

- The Amazon Kindle 3 holds over 3,500 books and allows you to organize them into categories.

- Enhanced read-to-me features. Now it can even be used for guided navigation.

- Mp3 player: Again, nice touch, but not too advanced at the moment.

How to compare the Amazon Kindle 3 and B&N’s Nook.

Here are some of the main points:

- Price: Kindle 3 is cheaper than the Nook. I wouldn’t base my decision on this, but you may want to take it into account.

- Screen: This is the grounds on which most of us will make our choice. The Nook offers a color LCD screen, which some people tend to prefer at first. In my opinion, a color screen with LCD technology not only distracts you from your reading, but it hurts your vision if you read long enough, particularly under sunlight. Kindle 3′s e-ink technology is the best at what it does: allow you to focus on your text and let you read as comfortably as possible.

- Navigation and general interactivity: Everything seems to be much faster and smoother on the new Amazon Kindle 3 reader (not so much on Kindle 2, mind you). Both navigating and turning pages is much faster with the new Kindle. Also, the new Key disposition on Kindle 3′s dashboard make it very comfortable to use, and general ergonomics have been improved from previous Kindle models. Then again, ergonomics are the one thing I like about the Nook. Also, Nook’s touch screen may seem hipper, particularly in this iPhone era. However, after navigating this way for about a month you’ll start to miss Kindle’s keys. Again, they have very good disposition and don’t distract you from your reading. They’re there for a reason.

- e-pub format. This is a popular open format that allows libraries to lend you books, for example, and it’s used by B&N’s Nook. The Kindle, on the other hand, still uses a proprietary format at the moment . This is an advantage for the Nook, but Amazon claims Kindle will soon incorporate similar functionalities. Besides, with Amazon’s library of 100s of thousands of ebooks, this becomes less of a problem.

With the help of his wife, Marit, and local craftsmen, he designed 11 unobtrusive but stylish cottages using salvaged driftwood and native thatch, incorporating a dive resort into his mini-eco-paradise that’s committed to operating sustainably. The reefs that encircle this genteel, prosperous British territory some 600 miles (966 kilometers) off the coast of North Carolina have trashed hundreds of vessels, including the Sea Venture, which in 1609 tossed the island’s first European settlers ashore. Today that translates to some of the most spectacular and accessible wreck diving in the world.

As if the nearly 400 identified sunken ships weren’t enough, the Bermuda government deliberately scuttled two more in the last two years—a 70-foot (21-meter) passenger ferry and a 75-foot (23-meter) tugboat—just for your diving pleasure. Most of the boats, or what’s left of them, are resting no more than 50 feet (15 meters) deep on vibrant coral beds. “There’s not a single wreck that’s sitting in a desolate sand hole,” says Marie Wilson, dive instructor with Blue Water Divers & Watersports, the island’s only year-round operation.

When the big winter swell starts breaking on Palikir Pass (pictured here), a channel in the surrounding barrier reef of mountainous, jungly Pohnpei in Micronesia’s Caroline Islands, it is one hell of a wave. Aussie pro surfer Dylan Longbottom has called the hollow, glassy barrel, which is accessible only by boat, “by far the best right in the world.” Though they can indeed get huge, most days the waves run a manageable two to six feet (0.5 to two meters). And even if the water goes flat, there’s still plenty to do. Kiteboard the cross-shore winds at Sokhes Pass, dive the reefs of the outer atolls, or hike to one of Pohnpei’s shampoo ad-worthy waterfalls that tumble out of the high country—where rainfall averages 400 inches (1,016 centimeters) annually—into cool, swimmable pools. “It’s like Tahiti 50 years ago,” says Allois Malfitani, co-owner of the Pohnpei Surf Club, a nine-room riverfront lodge that caters to wave riders. “From the water, you can hardly see any sign of human presence.” People have, in fact, been on this island halfway between Manila and Honolulu for ages. Take a jaunt to the haunting Nanmatol ruins, a seventh-century stone city on Pohnpei’s east side that is best explored by sea kayak. For further anthropological, um, studies, stop by the Rusty Anchor, a harborfront bar hidden in the shell of an unfinished hotel and frequented by an Altmanesque cast of ex-pats and locals. Don’t miss an open-air sakau market, where you can sample the mildly narcotic, mellowing goop made from the roots of pepper plants that—if rather unpalatable—is an island staple.

Lure: Let your base camp be your guide

Location: Pine Island Sound, Florida

This is the way to do southwest Florida—from a crewed, floating B&B loaded with kayaks, limes, rum, and five of your closest paddling buddies to split the cost. The Mirage, a shallow-draft 70-foot (21-meter) outrigger catamaran, cruises through the barrier islands of Pine Island Sound, dropping your gang off at a new location each morning along the just expanded Great Calusa Blueway, a 190-mile (306-kilometer) marked canoe and kayak route. A loose itinerary leaves room for spontaneity and takes into account the skill level and ambition of the group.

Poke around the grassy fringes of Sanibel’s J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, where manatees roll in the dark green water; paddle through the chop with a posse of dolphins to the empty beaches of Cayo Costa State Park; or cut through a channel to play in the Gulf of Mexico on the islands’ western shores. And if you simply want to drift, that’s cool too.

“Sometimes we just let the kayaks float along the edges of the flats and watch the roseate spoonbills fish,” says Elke Thuerling, co-owner of Kayak Voyagers. After dinner, take a moonlight swim, then stretch out on the deck and count the stars.

In these cases I advise the client that they should busy themselves with such actions or engage in such endeavors.

For instance I might see the client on vacation and scuba diving and I would then advise them to do such a thing. Then it is later learned that the client meets her future husband as part of a scuba diving group on vacation in the Bahamas. You see, quite often a question asked by the client will result in an impression or insight which is related to the question, although somewhat indirectly.

Perhaps the most important role that I play as an advisor is in assisting my clients in tapping into their own intuitive abilities.
